In a significant cybersecurity breach, a prominent Android app known for its controversial nature has been rendered inoperable. LetMeSpy, an Android spyware app, has announced its permanent shutdown due to a data breach that resulted in the complete deletion of its server data. The Poland-based app made this announcement through a notice on its website, published in both English and Polish.
Hackers managed to gain full access to users’ email addresses, telephone numbers, and the content of their messages stored within the app. TechCrunch reported that LetMeSpy is no longer available for download, and all existing installed versions appear to be nonfunctional according to network traffic analysis.
The app had previously disclosed the security incident in June of this year. A notice posted on LetMeSpy’s website stated, “On June 21, 2023, a security incident occurred involving unauthorized access to the data of website users.”
LetMeSpy was an Android phone monitoring app specifically designed to remain hidden on a device’s home screen, making it challenging to detect and remove. Once installed on a phone, it continuously tracked messages, call logs, and real-time location data of the device.
